Years 8 & 9
The learning and developmental needs of Years 8 and 9 students are addressed in the Middle School through the curriculum, co-curriculum and wellbeing programs. The breadth and depth of opportunities in and beyond the classroom are designed to facilitate multiple expressions of excellence for students as they transition through the middle years of high school. Both year levels are also able to participate in camp opportunities.
Programs common to Year 8 and 9:
- Hands-On Learning
- Edendale Farm/Open House engagement programs
- Pathways counselling
- Blue Edge
A core curriculum continues to provide a rich and balanced learning program for Year 8 students. Students also participate in the Cave and Flourish programs; workshops that promote wellbeing, resilience and confidence. This supports the work they undertake in the Strive program’s focus on resilience, rights and respectful relationships.
The addition of electives to the core curriculum at Year 9 provides access to the range of pathways offered in the Senior School. Electives are offered based on areas of student interest and begin to establish a pathway toward broader opportunities in Senior School. Year 9s also participate in the Year 9 City Experience (a week in the city completing inquiry tasks), Morrisby Testing (for career planning and undertaking mock job interviews), and Elephant Ed (a consent-focused education program).
The ‘I Explore’ and ‘I Focus’ steps of the Career Action Plan are also undertaken by Year 8 and 9 students respectively as part of the STRIVE program.
