Sport Carnivals
- Annual Whole School House Swimming Carnival: A yearly event where the entire school participates in friendly competition to showcase swimming skills and foster camaraderie within the house system.
- Annual Year 7-10 House Athletics Carnival: St. Helena consistently excels in the Northern Metro region, securing 1st place for the past two years. This event not only promotes athletic prowess but also strengthens school spirit and community ties.
Cross Country
St. Helena fields a Cross Country team annually to compete in the School Sports Victoria (SSV) Cross Country competition, providing students with the opportunity to demonstrate their endurance and determination on a competitive stage.
Interschool Sport
- Opportunity for All: Every term, every student has the chance to participate in interschool sport, promoting inclusivity and encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle.
- Format: Interschool sport occurs once per term and follows a round-robin format, pitting teams against Montmorency, Eltham High, and Diamond Valley Secondary College.
- Competition Pathway: Winning teams progress to the regional round of competition, offering students the chance to represent St. Helena on a broader scale and fostering a competitive spirit within the school community.

Sports Academies
Program Vision
Our Sport Academy aims to provide a comprehensive athletic development program for students in Year 7 and 8, with plans to expand into Year 9 and 10. Through focused training in AFL and Basketball, we strive to nurture students’ talents, foster sportsmanship, and instill a commitment to excellence both on and off the field.
Requirements
- We seek students who demonstrate exceptional skill and dedication in their chosen sport, competing at a high level.
- Submission of a written application including a coach and teacher reference is required.
- Tryouts will be conducted for selection purposes.
How & When to Apply
- Applications open upon Grade 6 students receiving acceptance to St. Helena.
- Interested students must submit a written application and secure a coach and teacher reference.
- Tryouts will be offered following application submission.
Program Details
- Enrolment is limited to 50 students each in Year 7 and Year 8 across both AFL and Basketball programs.
- The program operates during regular class time, replacing PE classes.
- Curriculum includes 1 mainstream health class, 3 external coach-led training sessions, and 1 strength and conditioning session per fortnight.
- AFL Academy training venue is at Anthony Beale, occurring once every fortnight.
- Behaviour contract adherence is mandatory; failure to comply may result in withdrawal from the program.
- Current coaches AFL Academy Monty Stuart (Year 7 and 8), Basketball Academy Ross Wignell (Year 7) and Dylan Theis (Year 8).
Uniform & Equipment
- Basketball Academy students receive a reversible jersey, playing shorts, and a polo.
- AFL Academy students receive a jersey, shorts, socks, and a polo.
- The polo may be worn daily with PE uniform, while the rest of the uniform is designated for Academy sessions only.
Costs
- The 2024 program costs $1100, inclusive of coaching, uniform, equipment, and select excursions.
